St Ives MP, Andrew George has welcomed news that the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust is to invest some of the £18 million it has secured from the Department of Health at West Cornwall Hospital.
“Many will rightly welcome this demonstration of continuing commitment to West Cornwall Hospital at a time when public spending is under such constraint.
“Whilst I regretted the decision taken three years ago to fundamentally change the hospital – and the patients it could safely recieve – I acknowledge that I was almost a lone voice.
“Most other hospital campaigners welcomed the plans at that time, no doubt understanding all of the inevitable changes in surgery, anaesthetic cover, urgent diagnostic and other facilities at the hospital.
“This investment will reinforce that general direction for the hospital. I am pleased the RCHT Chief Executive, Peter Colclough, and his fellow directors have agreed to attend another public meeting to discuss the Trust’s achievements and future plans for the hospital,” said Andrew George, who opened the Penzance hospital’s ‘Celebration Day’ on Saturday.
