West Cornwall MP, Andrew George, will host a round table discussion to launch a new report ‘The Future of the NHS?’ from think tank, the Centre for Health and the Public Interest (CHPI). The CHPI is a new organisation led by experts on health policy and finance, and has produced this report to highlight the risk to the quality of healthcare created by the marketisation of the NHS.
Mr George will be joined by journalist Polly Toynbee, Marianna Fotaki, Professor of Business Ethics in the Warwick Business School, The University of Warwick and Dr Catherine Needham, Reader in Public Policy and Public Management at Birmingham University.
The meeting will be held in Westminster and will take place on Tuesday the 22nd October 2013, at 12pm.
CARE QUALITY COMMISSION QUESTIONED
Andrew George MP will attend an accountability hearing of the Health Select Committee, hearing from Chair of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) David Prior, and Chief Executive David Behan. The Health Select Committee will probe CQC chiefs about care standards and conflict within the organisation itself.
The meeting will take place on Tuesday 22nd October 2013 at 2.00pm.
GEORGE TO HOST WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION REPORT LAUNCH
Andrew George MP will host the launch of the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s Global TB Report 2013. The event has been organised by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Global TB, which Mr George chairs. This is the first time that the WHO has chosen to launch the annual report in the UK in seven years.
The launch begins at 6 pm on Wednesday 23rd October 2013.
RETHINK MENTAL ILLNESS
Andrew George will meet with members of Rethink Mental Illness, a charity focusing on mental health across the UK, to discuss the need for better policy and attitude changes regarding mental health. The meeting will take place on Wednesday 23rd October 2013.
Mr George is also backing the Rethink Mental Illness campaign to make the Government’s fit-for-work test fair for people with mental illness.
