Andrew George MP will stand up for rural communities in a debate on the Local Government Finance Settlement this Wednesday 12th February. Mr George has campaigned to reduce the “rural penalty” which sees urban councils receive 50% more funding per head than rural councils, and the Finance Settlement is a poor attempt to close this gap. Mr George is joined by other members of the cross-party Rural Fair Share Campaign, who advocate for a settlement of at least £30m for rural areas in order to reduce the inequality. Mr George delivered a thousand name petition on behalf of his constituents calling for “Fair Rural Funding” last autumn.
